Pygmy communities face stigma. Most Pygmy families have no land of their own: after being forcibly displaced, they have become a nomadic people without access to land.

PPSDR has acquired 30 community concessions for Pygmy peoples and reaches more than 125,000 families through concessions and agricultural areas: restoring access to land means restoring dignity and autonomy.

PPSDR supports vulnerable communities through listening, referrals, community mobilisation and initiatives that strengthen social cohesion, protection and access to essential rights.

On 31 May 2026, an attack attributed to the ADF targeted a Pygmy site in Ngadi (Beni), killing six people, including comedian Shukurani Nzanzu Mangese and his parents. PPSDR condemned the violence, expressed condolences and called for justice and respect for human rights. In June 2026, the organisation raised the alarm about displaced Pygmy families in Boikene (Beni), living outdoors without food, shelter or safe water.
